Week 22

Pessimism

Some people are pessimists. These people believe they are more realistic than optimists.

However, pessimism can be just as unrealistic as optimism.

Although it is important to face the truth, there is nothing gained by negativity.

It brings down your mood.

It also reduces the possibilities for constructive solutions because your explanations are often absolute and judgmental.

Try replacing statements such as “that’s never going to happen” and “they are too lazy to do that” with alternative explanations. Try, “perhaps there is a way”, or “maybe they are not interested”.

These statements open up the possibilities for action. Immediately your challenge becomes figuring out a way, or making something more interesting to others, rather than feeling down about an unsatisfactory situation.
